Thinking of studying abroad? Well if you are, you might need some extra financial help. Here are some cool scholarships I found (on fastweb, so they’re all legit) with deadlines in the month of September. While these are not specifically targeted to study abroad students, you should be able to apply to any of these since you are enrolled at SFSU. Cause who doesn’t like free money?

Open to all majors

1) Essay Outline Requirements

Write a 500 to 1000 word essay outlining at least 3 steps that you plan to take in the next year to start a path towards having a career that you love. What are your passions that could be turned into a career? What are some ideas you have for a business based on things that you love and are skilled at?

Scholarship: Haiku Scholarship Contest

Open to all majors

Award: $500.00

The Haiku Scholarship Contest is open to students who are currently enrolled at an accredited two – or four – year college or university. To enter, you must submit an original haiku that captures the essence of what the word “emerge” means to you. You must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 to be eligible for this award.

Scholarship: 1-800-Wheelchair Scholarship Fund

Open to all majors

Award: $500.00

Important note: This scholarship requires submissions to be mailed via post. Do not start it the night before!

 Please submit a ‘visual poem’, in a style of your choosing, on the theme of overcoming a personal challenge. Limit your ‘visual poem’ to an 8.5in x 11in piece of paper. You can choose to represent words, images, or both. It can abstract or representational. Please include a personal statement that gives us an idea of who you are and how your poem relates to a challenge you’ve faced. The poem and essay (combined) should be between 500 and 1,000 words, but feel free to write a little more or less.

Scholarship: Tweet for Success Scholarship Contest

Open to all majors

Award: $250.00

The Tweet for Success Scholarship Contest is open to students currently enrolled in an accredited two- or four-year college for the Fall of 2015. You must submit a message of no more than 140 characters that explains the benefits of online courses and degrees versus traditional schooling. You must also be a legal resident of the U.S. and have a minimum GPA of 2.0 to be considered for this award.

Scholarship: County Office Scholarship

Open to all majors

Award: $1000.00

The County Office Scholarship is available to US citizens 16 years of age and older who are either in their senior year of high school or currently enrolled in an accredited college or university. You must submit a 500-1500 word essay on the following topic: “The most important local county office to me is…”

Scholarship: Odenza Marketing Scholarship

Open to all majors

Award: $500.00

The Odenza Marketing Scholarship is available to students in the U.S. and Canada who are between the ages of 16 and 25. You must submit two 500 – word essays to be considered for this award. A minimum 2.5 GPA is also required.

Essay Question #1:

Choose a city located anywhere in the world that you believe would, from a future employment prospective, benefit your career. Explain in under 500 words how spending time in this city would help you become more marketable to a potential employer(s). Clearly identify how it will benefit you. For example, going to Paris may help you if you are interested in Fashion Design. Note that this should not just be stated. You must provide an argument supporting this statement.

Essay Question #2:

Explain in under 500 words, why you think you should be granted the Odenza Marketing Group Scholarship.

Scholarship: Don’t Text and Drive Scholarship

Open to all majors

Award: $1,500.00

The Don’t Text and Drive Scholarship is available to high school, undergraduate or graduate students. You must be U.S. citizen or legal resident and complete a short statement on why you pledge not to text and drive in order to qualify for this award.

How to apply: Complete the application form below including a 140-character message about texting while driving. The top 10 applications will be selected as finalists. The finalists will be asked to write a full length 500- to 1,000-word essay about texting while driving.
